SPS School Year Dates 2023-24
Next year’s school year calendar has been approved, and key dates are now posted to the district website. The first day of school for grades 1-12 is Wednesday, Sept. 6. The first day of school for preschool and kindergarten is Monday, Sept. 11.
Key Dates for 2023-24
September 6 First day of school for 1st – 12th grade students
Sept. 6 is not an early release Wednesday. Early release will occur every Wednesday except for the first week of school.
September 11 First day of school for preschool and kindergarten students
October 13 State In-service Day (no school for students)
November 10 Veterans Day Observed (no school)
November 20-22 Elementary conference days (no school for elementary and K-8 students; varies by school)
November 23-24 Thanksgiving and Native American Heritage Day (no school)
December 15 1-hour early dismissal
December 18-January 1, 2024 Winter break (no school)
January 15 Martin Luther King Jr. Day (no school)
February 19-23 Mid-winter break, including Presidents Day (no school)
April 8-12 Spring break (no school)
May 27 Memorial Day (no school)
June 19 Juneteenth (no school)
June 21 Last day of school (1-hour early dismissal).
Potential emergency closure makeup days are June 24-26.

Seeking Donations
We have a growing list of donations that would be helpful for the school and community:
- Grocery gift cards. We’d like to provide grocery gift cards to our families in need to help with food security over Mid-Winter Break. Able to help? Sign up here.
- Valentines. Have a box of Valentines to donate? We can put them to good use.
- Math Games. Still seeking math games in good working order for our upcoming Pi Night.
- Leggings, sweats, socks, and underwear. The nurse’s office is running low on changes of clothes in small and medium sizes. No zippers or buttons please.
- Kleenex. Always welcome.
PTA General Meeting – Budget Vote
Please mark your calendars for Monday February 27th at 6PM on Zoom for the Lawton PTA general membership meeting. We will be discussing the budget for the upcoming (2023/24) school year.
Only PTA members can vote on the budget, so please make sure your membership is up to date. New memberships can be purchased here.

This is the time of year we start budget planning for the next school year. An important part of that process is gathering staff and community input.

Upcoming Lawton Tours for Incoming Kindergartners
Lawton has in-person tours for incoming kindergartners/new families for the 2023-24 school year coming up.
Lawton Tour Dates:

No need to register. Just arrive at school 5-10 minutes before the tour and we’ll help you get where you need to go. Unable to make a tour but want a peek inside? Check out this video.

3rd – 5th Grade Bike Unit – January 5th
The 3rd – 5th Grade Bike Unit Starts January 5th
The Lawton PE bike and pedestrian safety unit for grades 3-5 will begin after winter break and run for most of January (January 5-25). This unit assumes most students know how to ride a bike but teaches learn-to-ride skills to students who need them. To prepare for this unit, please:

Bring your helmet to school if you have one (properly fitted and marked with your name) but leave your bike at home
Dress for the weather (e.g., gloves, clothes that can get wet and dirty) so that we can ride outside on the upper field
