This week saw students and teachers learning about Indigenous People’s Day. Students are learning about contemporary Native Americans and Washington State tribal history. For more information, please feel free to check out these resources on the SPS website.

In the coming weeks all families in Seattle Public Schools will be asked to complete a survey sharing their experiences with remote learning. Please share your feedback to help our school and district leaders plan for how best to support students and families during remote learning. 

New Meeting Links & Expanded Tech Center Hours

Your teachers have likely sent your student new meeting links. We are responding to tech staff guidance that refreshing links periodically will reduce glitches and increase functionality.

Flu Shot Clinic at Catharine Blaine from 9am to 5pm on Monday, October 19th

Drive through or walk up options available with an appointment. Clinic is open to everyone: students, employees, families and neighbors (over the age of 4 years). Registration required. Register HERE.  

Parenting During a Pandemic – October 20th at 6pm

Join our school counselor, Erica Barry, for a virtual parent night on October 20th at 6pm. Come learn helpful and easy-to-use behavior strategies and routines to set your students up for success in this time of remote learning. Come for the tips. Stay for the comfort of knowing you’re not alone in the struggle. Meeting link will be shared via email the day before the event.

Veterans Day Assembly Pictures Due October 23rd

If you have a Veteran you would like to honor at our November 6th assembly, please send a picture to Ms. Lewis at jrlewis@seattleschools.org. Please include your student’s name, Veteran’s name, and branch of military in which they served.

Request Your November Library Books by October 30th

Return the books you have and place holds for your next round of reading by October 30th so that you can have books to pick up on November 6thCLICK HERE for instructions on how to place holds.

PTA Meeting & Internet Safety Presentation – November 2nd 
On Monday, November 2nd Lawton Elementary PTA is hosting a General Meeting and a parent education session. The general meeting will start at 5:30pm to discuss revisions to the 2020 PTA budget and plan for 2021. Families will be sent a survey to help the PTA identify issues that are important to our community.

Starting at 6pm, there will be a free Internet Safety presentation by Kelley Crouch, the Strategic Advisor for the Seattle Police Department’s Washington State Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Topics of discussion will include cell phone and internet safety tips, cyberbullying, social networking/online gaming, online posting and the reality of kids as targets. Kelly Crouch will be presenting to our 4th and 5th grade students on Thursday, November 5th at 1pm. These presentations are sponsored by the Lawton Elementary PTA. Meeting link will be posted the week before the event. 

Dolphin Dreams Direct Drive is in Full Swing – 100% participation goal

Thank you to all who have participated so far! Lawton depends on PTA funds to provide students with our school counselor, technology licenses, library services, teacher asks, and more.

We are striving for 100% participation. All classrooms that reach 100% will be invited to a virtual dance party hosted by Ms. Volk! The first class to reach 100% will receive a popsicle delivery!
