Lawton Families –

It’s April already (no fooling!). In March we celebrated all things STEAM, and in April we highlight reading, poetry, and literature at Lawton. We’ll have poetry readings by Library Leaders in a variety of settings (whole school and in classrooms), a Spirit Day to dress like a favorite literary character, and Library lessons will focus on developing a joyful appreciation of poetry.

Library Leaders are part of our 4th/5th grade clubs, and this month we also have our Lawton Student Union (club) visiting K-3 classes to teach about Ruby Bridges, our Capoeira club teaching us about the practice at an assembly, our Newspaper club just published their 2nd “Lawton Times” edition, and our Book/Movie club has decided this month to get outside and become a movement club!

Career Exploration Night –

It’s not too late to participate as a presenter at our Career Night on April 23! We are looking for a few more folks to showcase a diverse range of jobs for our students to learn about. Please reach out for more info or complete the survey HERE.

Progress Reports – Look for them to be on the Source the week of 4/8

SPS has developed new guidelines that align with the CDC’s Covid guidelines –

Please review the information on the Respiratory Illness Response Page:

Student Birthday Treats –

Help us spread the word to your students that we are asking classes to eat birthday treats after lunch going forward. Students love these fun items and we find the best time of day for them is in the afternoon.

PTA Volunteers Needed for Upcoming Event Committees –

Last call for a PTA ‘End of Year Celebration’ planning team! Without a committee (and chair or lead to head the team) the PTA will be cancelling this community event so this is our last ask before we move on. Committee members help plan out events doing all the behind the scenes tasks to make them fun for everyone. These events are not possible without more help, we need you!

Thank you to those 4th grade parents who have signed up to help plan the 5th grade promotion!

We still need a couple of parents to help PLAN Field Day too. We would love to have a parent rep from every grade and currently need someone for kindergarten, 2nd and 5th grades to represent. Again, planning committees do the behind the scenes work before the event – meetings to determine activities and needs, divide up tasks and gather supplies, etc.
