Lawton Families –

As we head into the last week of school before our Winter Break, here are some announcements and reminders for you to consider:

Elementary Progress Reports

The EPR will be available on Monday, Dec. 18 in the Source – we only print the final progress report in June, so you can find the December and March EPRs online. Directions on how to access the Source are available on the SPS website.

Inclement weather and device info

This school year Seattle Public Schools again plans to shift to remote learning if there is inclement weather and buildings are closed. All students will bring home their district issued device over the Winter Break in case remote learning is needed on January 2. If there is no need for remote learning on January 2, please send all devices back to school with your student, as students need them for class activities and assessments.

Remote learning happens via Teams meetings that our staff create, and in the case that we need to shift to remote learning, both you and your student should check email for the schedule and Teams meetings links. Students using laptops access their email by logging in to Clever and choosing the Office 365 app; students with iPads can access their email by using the Outlook app on the home page. Lawton teachers have sent the Teams meetings links to all of their students by now, and I will send the schedule and master list of links to families should there be inclement weather. The first day of remote learning will always be a 2 hour delay (so students log in at 10am on day 1), and then Teams meetings will start at 8am on any days that follow.

Bookfair

This year our Bookfair will be the week of January 16-19, again coordinated with the PTA Bingo Night on 1/18/24. We’d love to have volunteers help with the Bookfair, so if you are interested, sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0C48A4AC2DA4FD0-46528381-lawton

Used Sneakers – 4th Grade Service Project (Message from Anne Leache)

The Lawton 4th graders are launching a Used Sneaker Collection Contest starting Thursday, December 7th and running until the winter break. Our goal is to collect 1,000 pairs of used sneakers! The class that brings in the most shoes will win an extra recess and cookie party, and the runner up will win cookies!

Please send your used sneakers and any athletic shoes your neighbors or friends have to recycle, to your child’s class. Fourth graders will pick them up every morning and keep a tally for the contest.

Sneakers do not decompose in environmentally friendly ways. They clog landfills, leach chemicals into our soil, and take 40 years to break down. Your donated sneakers will be recycled or reused.

Boots, dress shoes, sandals, cleats, and other footwear are not accepted. Please only donate sneakers! Vans, Nike, Adias, Brooks, Converse… Thank you! Learn more at gotsneakers.com

Free Enrichment Classes!

Earn a free enrichment class for your child. We are in need of on-site volunteers while the enrichment classes are running. This is a very easy volunteer position: You are there to help the providers and teachers to make sure the kids get to their classes and get picked up by their parents or caretakers.

And while you’re there, your child gets a free class! Sign up quickly, these positions are only available on a first come, first served basis.

Volunteers are still needed for the following time slots:

Monday: 2:15pm-4:15pm

Wednesday: 1:00pm-3:00pm

Volunteers need to be SPS-approved.

If you’d like to volunteer or have any questions, please contact afterschoolprograms.
