Lawton Families,
First – welcome Kindergarten Families! The students are doing great in their classes, and we are so happy to have you join our school!
Next – Our PTA-run Safety Patrol program will start on Wednesday, and when the Patrol students are present at drop off, we ask that all adults and students follow their signs, movement and directions. This applies to people in cars as well as people walking to school.
Additionally, here are some reminders and tips about having a safe and efficient morning drop off at Lawton:
1. Drop off is between 7:40am and 7:55am. There is no staff supervision of students who are dropped off before 7:40am, and that is a safety risk for students waiting outside the building alone before 7:40. Please arrange to have your student arrive in the 15 minute window when staff are present.
2. If you are dropping off by car, please follow the map below, and drive slowly and carefully on Elmore and on 27th. We place cones on 27th to mark the drop off zone, and ask that you do not park or get out of your car in that zone. Do not drive around the drop off line into incoming traffic for any reason.
3. If you are walking to school, please use the crosswalks and sidewalks that surround the school. The staff parking lot is not part of this route; please do not walk in the parking lot with your student, or after you drop them off.
4. The crosswalks and stop signs at 27th and Elmore are really important elements of safe drop off, especially when we do not have Safety Patrol present. When walking east toward Lawton on Elmore, please use the sidewalk on the north side of the street and use the cross walks with green highlight on the map below. Because cars are turning right from Elmore onto 27th rather consistently during drop off, it is dangerous to use the crosswalk connected to the south side of Elmore.
Thank you for supporting a safe drop off experience for our students! With busses, cars, pedestrians, and bikes, we have a busy, healthy, fun drop off here at Lawton, and when we all stay alert and mindful, it sets the stage for a great school day!
