General PTA Membership Meeting

PTA members, mark your calendars: Our General Membership Meeting will take place on Thursday, 3/21 at 6pm in the Lawton Library. We will discuss updates to the current year budget, plans for the 2024/25 budget and give an overview of the process for approving the budget as well as answer any questions you may have. Our wonderful librarian and reading specialist, Ms. Gallegos, will be in attendance to share more about the importance of her work at Lawton.

Parenting Support Group

Following our Membership Meeting, we will be kicking off our first Lawton Parenting Support Group. It will take place on 3/21 at 7pm in the Lawton Library.   From facilitator Kate Kiely: “Join us for a monthly parenting support group where you can share your experiences, learn new strategies, and get and give support in a safe space. When we raise kids in the context of community and connection, we learn to be more compassionate to ourselves, supportive of one another, and more present for the kids in our lives. We’ll exchange resources and read and discuss a parenting book together. It’s also a great way to make and strengthen connections within the Lawton community. The group will be hosted by certified coach and facilitator Kate Kiely.”

Kate Kiely Bio: Kate is a parent of a Lawton grad and a certified personal development coach and facilitator, specializing in leadership, communication, and change. Kate has a master’s degree in education and has spent many hours in the classroom. She facilitates workshops, leadership circles, and support groups, and volunteers for HCN, the Humanitarian Coaching Network. Kate has a passion for creating community, promoting ongoing learning, and cultivating a growth mindset.

Recycle for Good – Last Day March 4

Let’s show Mother Earth a little love this Valentine’s season and recycle some hard to recycle items!

Starting February 1 we’re partnering with Terracycle to collect as many applesauce and yogurt pouches, and their caps as possible. We’ll send collected pouches back to Terracycle for recycling and to earn funds for Lawton!

This monthlong event is sponsored by GoGoSqueez, but any brand of pouch like those pictured above can be placed in the marked recycle bin located in Lawton’s front lobby. Pouches must be rinsed clean.

Free Enrichment Classes!

Earn a free enrichment class for your child. We are in need of on-site volunteers while the enrichment classes are running. This is a very easy volunteer position: You are there to help the providers and teachers to make sure the kids get to their classes and get picked up by their parents or caretakers. And while you’re there, your child gets a free class! Sign up quickly, as these positions are only available on a first come, first served basis.

Volunteers are needed for the following time slots:

Monday: 2:15pm-4:15pm

Tuesday: 2:15pm-3:45pm

Wednesday: 1:00pm-3:00pm

Thursday: 2:15pm-4:15pm

Volunteers need to be SPS-approved.

If you’d like to volunteer or have any questions, please contact afterschoolprograms@lawtonelementary.org.

STEAM Week – Coming Soon!

Sign up to help with the visit from the Pacific Science Center on Tuesday, March 12. Volunteers are needed to unload vans and set up in the morning, clean up and load vans in the afternoon, and to help with the exhibits during the school day.

(Ice Cream) Taco Tuesday – 2/13/24

Join us for (arguably) the BEST type of Taco Tuesday – the type where ice cream is involved!

Visit Nutty Squirrel in the Magnolia Village on Tuesday, 2/13 from 3-6 PM. 15% of all sales are donated to the Lawton PTA.

Volunteers Needed

Please consider signing up to volunteer for the following items:

  • 5th Grade Promotion
  • End of Year Celebration
  • Event Planner/Committee Chair
  • Field Day Committee

We love that Lawton and the PTA help put on these events – but they can’t happen without support of families. Thank you!

Please email vicepresidents@lawtonelementary.org if you are interested in volunteering!

Recycle for Good

During February there will be a recycle bin in the front lobby for rinsed out apple sauce & yogurt snack pouches (and their caps) such as the ones pictured above. Though it is sponsored by GoGoSqueez, all brands are accepted. We are doing this through a company called Terracycle, the idea is we collect  as many pouches as possible, send them back to them, they recycle them and give us credits that can be turned into funds that go back to Lawton.

So let’s show Mother Earth a little love this valentine’s season and recycle some of those hard to recycle itemsđź’ť!
