Principal Newsletter

Lawton Families,

As we head into June, we are wrapping up testing and heading into field trip season. All of our grade levels will head out into the community in May and June for experiential learning, from as close as Lawton and Discovery Parks, to as far as a state capitol tour in Olympia. Our yearbooks have also been printed, and we will aim to hand them out on June 7. If you did not pre-order a yearbook for your student, the PTA will sell them in person at Lawton the week of June 10 (more details to come). June is a fun month at Lawton, so check out the events list below to keep track of it all!

Last ask – snacks for the Main Office

We are out of goldfish crackers in the Main Office – a very popular student request – so any donations are appreciated!

Lost Tortoise

Room 108’s pet tortoise, Bruce, got out of the building last week and we suspect he’s burrowed under a shrub in the parking lot area. If you are in that area, keep an eye out for him and let us know if you suspect his location!

Talent Show(s)

We are excited to have our last two Wednesday WAVE Assemblies be student Talent Shows! Students must sign up to audition, and parents must be present for the audition. We will have rehearsals the afternoon before the two talent shows, and we’d really like to have families come to rehearsals so the student have an audience to perform in front of; note there is very limited standing room for guests in the Commons for the student assembly shows.

  • Wednesday, May 27 – 3rd -5th Talent Show Auditions, 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm (parent needs to be present)
  • Wednesday, June 5 – K – 2nd Talent Show, 8 am (Rehearsal is after school on Tuesday, June 4)
  • Wednesday, June 12 – 3rd – 5th Talent Show, 8 am (Rehearsal is after school on Tuesday, June 11)

If you missed that cutoff you could consider buying a solid color shirt that closely matches your grade assigned color at Michaels – limited sizes are in stock in Interbay with more online. Kindergarten is royal blue, first grade red, second is orange, third is yellow, fourth is lime green and fifth is light blue. Please remember that grade color t-shirts are 100% optional for this day and your child will still have fun wearing any Lawton spirit gear if you have it or any shirt at all!
