Principal Newsletter 10.18.24

Lawton Families,

Fall is definitely here, and with the change of season comes cooler, wetter weather (so send labelled coats with your students), beginning of year academic assessments in all grades, and fun PTA traditions like the Direct Drive and the Fall Festival (more info on those below).

But First – Some New Lawton Staff

We have new staff that have joined our Lawton team since the start of the school year that I’d like to make sure you know about – please give a warm welcome to:

Tamara Siler, who is our new Multilanguage Learner Teacher – she will be at Lawton on Wednesdays and Fridays. We also have Marisol Munguia de la Cruz filling our new MLL IA position as a long-term sub on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.

Brady Cristancho, who has been staffed for this year in our Extended Resource teacher position; we are delighted to see how he and the team of Instructional Assistants are creating a really positive and strong program for our Lawton students.

For our Playground Supervisors, Ms. Rachel (a Lawton parent) has returned this year, and she is now joined by fellow Lawton parents Ms. Hina, Ms. Kate and Ms. Nicole, as well as neighborhood/community members Ms. Patty and Ms. Ryleigh!

Taproot Theatre Performance

Next week we are excited to have the Taproot Theatre come to Lawton to perform Rocks!, a musical play that supports Social Emotional skills and positive behavior expectations. Students will watch the play in the Commons and teachers can build on the lessons of the play in subsequent SEL lessons in class. This enrichment experience is made possible by generous PTA support, and is one of many special events that PTA provides that makes Lawton such an amazing school community!

PTA Direct Drive

Speaking of PTA support – the annual Lawton PTA Direct Drive is launching at the end of this week, on Friday, Oct. 25 (lasting through November 15). You can find more information about the Direct Drive by looking at the Konstella site for the PTA or emailing lawtonfundraising@gmail.com. If you haven’t done so yet, please click here to sign up for Konstella, and receive important PTA information, such as after school enrichment, upcoming events and more.

The Direct Drive is the major fundraising event for the PTA, and helps to support all PTA student and family events, arts programs during the school day, after school enrichment, classroom and academic support (including online subscriptions to IXL, BrainPOP and RazzKids), Kindergarten Jump Start, Safety Patrol, STEM Week (Pacific Science Center), smaller class sizes in grades 4-5, staff appreciation, and so much more! We thank our Lawton community for all you do to support our school, from volunteering and attending school events, to donating to the fund-raising efforts of the PTA year after year! Your support makes Lawton a better place for our students!
