Lawton Families,
As we enter into the 2nd month of school, it is so inspiring to see and hear our students eagerly engaging in learning and playing together in our classrooms and on our playground. While all of our students are diving into the first academic units and social emotional lessons of the year, it has particularly been so fun to see the 4th and 5th grade students start their “clubs” on Wednesdays, to see 2nd and 3rd grade students reading chapter books and engaging in complex math work, and to see how mature and confident the 1st graders are this year! And our Kindergarteners – they are hands-down the best hallway walkers in the school, and are adjusting to the routines of their school day like old pro’s!
Principal Coffee tomorrow morning, Oct. 8
Join me for a cup of coffee and a treat in the Commons after drop off at 7:55 – there’s no agenda other than to meet and talk with you, hear your thoughts and answer questions that you have at this point in the year. We used to do these kinds of parent events before the pandemic, and I’d like to bring back an open space to hear from families what we’re doing well and what we can improve!
Veteran’s Day Assembly Content
Our annual Vet’s Day assembly will be November 13 (date changed from our original date of Nov. 6). If you have sent in photos of families members before, we thank you and hope to use them again this year; if you haven’t sent in pics of Veterans in your family, and would like to contribute to our slide show, send them to Lawton@seattleschools.org to be included this year!
Lawton 4th Grade Used Sneaker Community Service Collection
Our goal is to collect and recycle or reuse 1,000 pairs of sneakers this year! Please bring your old athletic shoes and place them in the blue bin at the entrance to the school.
Sneakers do not decompose in environmentally friendly ways. They clog landfills, leach chemicals into our soil, and take 40 years to break down. Your donated sneakers will be recycled or reused. Boots, dress shoes, sandals, cleats, and other footwear are not accepted. Please only donate sneakers, i.e. Vans, Nike, Adidas, Brooks, Converse. Thank you!
Seattle Public Schools’ LGBTQ+ Families Dinner
The SPS Health Education Office will be hosting the 25th Annual Seattle Public Schools LGBTQ+ Families Dinner on Thursday, Nov. 14, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Meany Middle School.
This event brings together LGBTQ+ parents/guardians and parents of LGBTQ+ or gender-expansive students in SPS. We offer a communal dinner, a resource fair, time for community and connection, family-friendly entertainment, and fun activities for kids.
Interested families should RSVP. Families can also join our Rainbow Families Mailing List for future updates.

SPS is offering vaccine clinics this fall and throughout the school year. The clinics are open to all SPS staff, families, and students—regardless of their enrolled school.
