Lawton Families,

As we head into the next two weeks, Lawton classrooms are buzzing with lots of learning and lots of excitement for the upcoming Winter Break!

On that note, we have been asked by the district to send home school devices and chargers with students over the break in the event there should be inclement weather on January 6 (when we are due to return to school). The district will move to remote learning in lieu of cancelling school days for inclement weather, and you can read more about their policy and procedures here.

Remote learning will be conducted on Teams, and links to the Teams meetings will be emailed to you and your students should we shift to remote. The devices need to return to school with your student on January 6 (or the 1st day we are back in person in the building), and if your student will not be at Lawton on Friday, December 20, please be sure to contact their teacher to arrange to check out the device and charger.

From the Main Office:

As we celebrate the joy of giving this holiday season, we invite you to lend your support to some of our families who are in need of assistance. Your generous donation of a gift card would make a meaningful impact. If you can contribute, please sign up below and drop off the gift cards at the front office by Thursday, December 12. If you would like to donate anonymously or send a E-Gift card, just let Jessica Luke know (jaluke@seattleschools.org) so she can watch her “junk” folder.

Thank you for your kindness and support. Happy Holidays!

From Ms. Leache’s 4th Grade Class:

Lawton 4th graders are doing a Used Sneaker Collection Contest in December, running until the winter break. Our goal is to collect 1,000 pairs of used sneakers! The THREE classes that bring in the most shoes will win homemade cookies! Please send your used sneakers and any athletic shoes to your child’s class. Fourth graders will pick them up every morning and keep a tally for the contest.

Sneakers do not decompose in environmentally friendly ways. They clog landfills, leach chemicals into our soil, and take 40 years to break down. Your donated sneakers will be recycled or reused. Boots, dress shoes, sandals, cleats, and other footwear are not accepted. Please only donate sneakers, ie: Vans, Nike, Adidas, Brooks, Converse. Thank you! Learn more at gotsneakers.com

Finally, from the Lawton PTA:

It’s time to sign up for the winter session of our after school enrichment program! All the fun programs from the fall session will be back, plus two new classes: Pickleball and Science.

The winter session will run from January 13 till March 28, 2025. Registration opens on Friday, December 6 at 7:00am and closes on Friday, December 20 at 11:59pm.

To register and to find more information on each class as well as the schedule and pricing, please visit the Lawton After School Enrichment portal.
