Lawton Families,
I hope you are all enjoying the Presidents’ Day Holiday today and have a wonderful mid-winter break this week!
Arrival and Dismissal Reminders – as we return to school on Feb. 26
Morning Arrival:
- With later sunrises, we are excited to see more students walking to school in the morning. Safety Patrol is at the 27th and Elmore intersection from 7:40 – 7:55am to help walkers cross the street safely.
- Safety Patrol is staffed by our 5th grade students and either Lawton parent volunteers or Lawton staff. Please remember that when Safety Patrol is out that drivers are expected to follow and respect the directions from the adult supervisors at the intersection and obey the speed limit of 20 mph in a school zone.
Afternoon Dismissal:
- Please communicate to Lawton AND your child’s teacher if there are daily changes to your established end of day routine, including if you are running late for pick up.
- Do not park in the circular end of 27th Ave W at any time before, during or after the school day. This is both a bus and fire lane and it cannot be blocked (per Seattle Fire Department regulation).
- For students walking or biking home after school, make sure to teach them their safe walking routes and what to do if approached by a stranger. Here are some tips to help you prepare students for walking or biking home.
Upcoming Events
March 1 – School Spirit Day: Sports!
March 6 – Lawton is excited to have the Taproot Theatre come here for a performance of “The Friend Ship”, a play about pirates (and friendship!). This performance is funded by the PTA and will take the place of our weekly WAVE assembly.
March 11 – 15 – STEAM Week! All week long our school will focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math in classes and special events.
Again, thanks to the generous support of the PTA, we will bring the Pacific Science Center to Lawton on Tuesday, March 12 for an assembly, interactive classroom workshops and an exhibition area for classrooms to visit.
On Thursday, March 14 (3.14), our school and PTA will co-host a Family Math Night, with treats, that we like to call Pi/Pie Night! Join us from 5:30 – 6:30 in the cafeteria for math games, pies, and fun!
March 20 – end of Trimester 2 (report cards will be posted to the Source in early April)
April 23rd Lawton will host its second annual Career Exploration Night. We are looking for a diverse range of jobs from across the career spectrum for our students to learn about. Please reach out for more info or complete the survey HERE.
