Lawton Families –
I’m so impressed by our amazing students these last couple weeks – from
- Kindergarten students reciting a poem for their 3rd grade buddies,
- all 3rd grade students taking turns as fish biologists, monitoring the water and temperature of our Salmon Tank (and our salmon roe have turned into alevin this week – see the pictures below!),
- 1st and 2nd graders using graphing and models to demonstrate addition and subtraction concepts,
- to 4th and 5th student leaders speaking to prospective families about their experiences at Lawton at our recent Open Houses – everywhere I look, I see joy, confidence and engagement in our Lawton school community!
School Budget Survey – one more chance to let us know your priorities for how Lawton uses our discretionary funds for next year
Health and Illness – we are seeing an uptick in student illness at school, including students coming to school sick, being sent home due to illness, and students testing positive for COVID at home.
Check out the Is My Child too Sick to go to School guide for more information.
For school policies and procedures regarding student illness, please refer to the district website for detailed information: https://www.seattleschools.org/resources/covid-19-health-and-safety/
Jump Start and Kindergarten Enrollment for next year –
If you have a child who will be 5 years old by September 1, you can enroll them in Kindergarten at SPS now – enrollment is online and opened on 1/2/24. Please pass this info on to friends and neighbors with incoming Kindergarteners!
We are excited to announce that Lawton is bringing back our Kindergarten JumpStart program this August. The dates are August 20-22, from 9am to noon, and this program is open to all incoming Kindergarten students at Lawton. More information to come to enrolled families – but save the date!

Ongoing – Lawton 4th graders are continuing the Used Sneaker Collection. Our goal is to collect 1,000 pairs of used sneakers! Please bring your old kicks and any athletic shoes your neighbors or friends have to recycle and place them in the blue bin at the entrance to the school. Sneakers do not decompose in environmentally friendly ways. They clog landfills, leach chemicals into our soil, and take 40 years to break down. Your donated sneakers will be recycled or reused.
