Lawton Families,
Last week was very exciting around here, with our staff spoiled by delicious food, and lovely thoughts and gifts (thank you so much to our students, families and PTA – and a special shout out to Mikelle Newer for coordinating the wonderful buffets). Our students got lots of exercise biking/walking/rolling to school on Wednesday and doing the Move-A-Thon on Friday too! This week we return to our focus on academics, with some of our classes starting state testing, and others starting final units in math, ELA and science as we start to head into the last 6 weeks of the school year.
5th grade promotion – June 18, 5-6pm
This event has been on our Family Calendar since last spring, and Lawton staff and 4th grade parents are busy planning this important event which takes place in our Commons. Please note that we have rolled the time back to 5:00pm, and students will want to come 10 minutes early to line up for their special entrance.
Call for Parent Representatives to Join Our BLT
Every school in Seattle has a Building Leadership Team consisting of both staff and family representatives who serve 2 year terms. We have 2 parent rep. openings on our BLT for the 24-25 school year, so I’d love to hear from you if you are interested in joining this team. BLT meets from 3pm-4pm the first Monday of the month, and oversees our school vision, budget, professional development, and student programs. We strive to have diverse voices on our team, so please reach out to me for more information.
PTA Parenting Support Group: Thursday, May 30th (with childcare)
We’d like to invite you to the next meeting of our parenting support group, hosted by former Lawton parent and certified coach Kate Kiely. The meeting will take place in the library on Thursday, May 30th from 6:45-7:45pm.
The group discussion will be based on the second chapter of the book “The Whole Brain Child” by Daniel J. Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson. It’s not necessary to read the book/chapter in order to attend.
New: We will provide childcare during the meeting. For questions, please contact Birgit (presidents).
The PTA has teamed up with Ridwell to celebrate Earth Month and provide you with a one-time opportunity to drop off or send in your *plastic film*.
Update: Collection will happen in front of Lawton on Friday May 17 from 7:30-8:30 am and from 2-:15-2:45 pm. Feel free to drop off your items yourself or send them to school with your child. Here is our school’s link, to find out exactly what can and cannot be recycled. Let’s Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle together!
