Author Visit
On Friday, May 23, authors Kelly McWilliams and Jewell Parker Rhodes visited Lawton and spoke to all classes about their many books. In addition to being renowned for their writing and scholarship, the authors are mother and daughter, and are the family of a Lawton student, making this visit even more special! Students in K-3 had the book Soul Step (co-written by the authors) read aloud by Jewell Parker Rhodes, and the students in grades 2-5 engaged with the authors about writing historical fiction. We were so honored to have them share their work with our students, and thank the PTA for their support of this event.

The PTA is looking for 4-5 Committee Members to help kick off the 2025-2026 school year with the Back to School Bash!
(1) Why are we looking for volunteers now?
–This event happens close to the start of the new school year and looking for volunteers in September has been difficult. Getting a committee formed now ensures a successful event in the fall.
(2) What does it mean to be a committee member?
— Help plan the event: determine what activities will be at the event, what food will be provided, procure supplies, create the Konstella day-of volunteer sign-up sheet.
(3) Why join the committee?
— Because you want to ensure the Lawton Community has an awesome kick-off to the new school year with a fun, engaging, community event!!!
