Principal Newsletter, 9.20.24

Lawton Families,

This year I plan to continue sending this email every two weeks, and this version is really the 9/23 message.  Because we have some timely info that I want you to have today, I’m sending it off-cycle; my next email will be Oct. 7, followed by Oct. 21, etc.   I also will be sending you a separate email with PTA info and news today, as the PTA has just transitioned to a new communication platform called Konstella, and has stopped sending Dolphin Tales.

I also want to share that this morning one of our staff members experienced a medical emergency and we did call SFD and EMTs for assistance.  During the time that they transported the staff member to the ambulance, we did ask all classes to stay put in the locations they currently were and not walk around the hallways, so that the emergency professionals could do their job.  The staff member was alert during the process and is being treated/examined, and our staff and students did a great job of being patient and flexible today!

School Pictures Are Next Week!

Kindergarten and 1st grade pictures are 9/25, and everyone else is on 9/27.  Info here.

Open House

We are so excited to welcome all of our students and families to meet staff, tour the building and see student classrooms next Thursday, 9/26 from 4:30pm – 5:30pm.  This event is followed by our PTA’s Back to School Bash, from 5-7pm the same night!

Morning Drop Off and Parking Lot

Thank you for being so safe and respectful to our Safety Patrol students at drop off!  We’d love to get more 5th graders and their parents out there 5 days a week, as they are such great role models!  Please also continue to use the sidewalks to enter and leave the campus and do not walk in the parking lot at any time.

Playground Expectations

During school we want students to use our playground safely, so we don’t allow running on the green turf, we only go down the slides feet first, we don’t play tag (but running and chasing are OK), and we don’t play games that require special equipment or referees (no football, soccer, baseball, etc.) – BUT, we do climb, run, play with balls (kickball is popular with large ball), play pretend with friends, and we do exercise and enjoy the weather.  Please make sure your child has outdoor clothing for the season, and we’d love if families would support our school play expectations when you use our playground outside school hours.

Health Updates

SPS is no longer distributing COVID tests to families. As we move into the cold/flu season, please take advantage of the opportunity starting at the end of September to order your free COVID tests from the Federal Government at https://www.covid.gov/tools-and-resources/resources/tests
