Principal Newsletter – April 1, 2022

It was fun to see book characters wandering our hallways today – what a great way to kick off literacy month! While every day is a great day for reading, we encourage you to join us in celebrating books a little extra during the month of April.

Ways to support literacy month at home:

Lost and Found

All items remaining in the lost and found at Spring Break will be donated. Please make a point to check the racks next week. We put the lost and found outside the front doors each morning and leave it there until the end of the school day.

Food Drive for Ukrainian Community Center of Washington – 4/1 – 4/7

Ms. Hafzalla’s class is leading a nonperishable food item drive for the Ukrainian Community Center of Washington. The organization is looking for nonperishable items that expire no later than six months from now (e.g., canned goods, rice, pasta). Shipping containers of nonperishable items are being sent to Poland and then to Ukrainian refugees as the costs of goods go up daily.

Donations accepted Monday through Thursday next week. Able to pack up our collection and deliver it to the center on Friday? Please email rkhafzalla to volunteer.

Health Information

Spring Break Test-to-Return Supplies. Each student will be bringing home a Covid testing kit next week. Please help us have a safe and healthy return to school after spring break by testing your student on Sunday, April 17th for a safe return on Monday, April 18th. Report positive test results to lawton (no need to report negative results). Quarantine if you’re Covid positive and stay home if you’re sick.

Free government tests available. Households are eligible for a second round of free government tests. Click here to order.

Covid update. We sent four Covid notifications this week.

Report Cards

SPS expects to make Elementary Progress Reports available to view in the Source on April 2. Information about how to log in to the Source is available here. If you need a hard copy of your student’s report card, please email Kristina Cerise.
