Principal Newsletter – April 28, 2023

Well, it’s official – I am honored and delighted to be able to stay at Lawton in the permanent position as Principal. I want to thank all the students, families, and staff who have shown me the ropes at Lawton and welcomed me so warmly these last months. I’m very excited for all the learning, joy, and collaboration that lies ahead, and feel so lucky to be part of the Lawton WAVE!

I also want to give a huge shout out to Mrs. Cooper, Mr. Peters, and our amazing 5th grade students and teachers for a wonderful music concert this week that showcased their hard work and talents – it was a magical evening!

Spring Refresh

With the weather changing, more daylight, and spring sports and activities underway, we know students and families have had a lot of routine changes.

Please help us finish the year strong by reinforcing these school routines:

  • On time arrivals. Students may arrive on campus as early as 7:40am. All students should be on campus and ready to enter the building when the first bell rings at 7:50am. Being even “just a few minutes” late is disruptive.
  • On time pickups. Student pick up happens on the playground promptly at 2:25pm (1:10pm on Wednesdays). There is no supervision after school; all students need to leave the playground unless they are directly supervised by an adult.
  • Clear end of day plans. Make sure your student knows their after-school plans before they leave home. If plans change after they leave home (e.g., switch to parent pick up, ride bus home with a friend/to a different stop), please email lawton by noon.
  • All belongings every day. Use this Ready for School checklistor make your own to help your student arrives at school with everything they need.
  • Coats and accessories labeled. Our lost and found is overflowing. We return coats and lunchboxes that are labeled. Please label everything.

Your Plans for Next Year (K – 4th grade families only)

Please complete the green form that came home with your student and return it to the office by Monday, May 1st to let us know if you are returning to Lawton next year.

BLT Parent Representatives

We are still seeking two parent representatives for next year’s Building Leadership Team (BLT). BLT generally meets once a month, on Mondays, from 3-4pm. If you are interested in joining, please email kmcerise by Friday, May 5th. The Lawton BLT will review the submissions against membership needs.

PTA Updates

Join us for Family Movie Night TONIGHT! Please join the Lawton PTA for a family viewing of WALL-E tonight. Doors open at 5:30pm. Show starts at 6pm. Food truck will be on site. Students must be supervised by parents; this is not a drop-off event. Sign up to help.
