Principal Newsletter – April 29, 2022

Lawton will celebrate Staff Appreciation Week May 2nd – 6th. As a principal, it is a privilege to work with a team of professionals who care so deeply about the work they are doing and show up every day committed to delivering quality learning experiences, guiding the social and emotional growth of our students, and keeping our school safe and clean. I am excited that next week provides a formal excuse to show our appreciation for all the people who make Lawton a great place for students.

Student Talent Show

Lawton will be holding two school-day assemblies for students to showcase their talents:

  • 3-5 Talent Show on June 8th
  • K-2 Talent Show on June 9th

Auditions will be after school on Thursday, May 12th from 2:45 – 3:45 in the gym. To sign up, CLICK HERE.

Talent Show Guidelines:

  • Acts must be under 2 minutes
  • No lip syncing
  • Four or fewer performers
  • Minimal equipment from home only
  • Skits/poems memorized

Once we know how many performers we have, we’ll review space available to determine capacity for non-student audience members.

School and Classroom Planning for Next Year (K – 4th grade families only)

As we plan for next year, it’s helpful for us to know if you plan to return to Lawton. Having a good idea of our enrollment numbers helps us when building classes and assigning staff to grade levels. Please complete THIS ONLINE FORM by Friday, May 6th.

There are two parts to the form:

  • Part 1 (Required): Let us know if you are returning to Lawton next year.
  • Part 2 (Optional): Provide feedback on your student’s strengths, challenges, and learning style. While we do not take teacher requests, we value your expertise about your student. Great care and consideration is given to each child’s placement, whether you submit input or not.

PE Update

Mr. Peters will be on leave for the rest of this school year, taking time to care for his health. We have cancelled the bike unit but will be doing the Move-A-Thon on May 13th and Field Day on June 10th. We appreciate your flexibility and patience as we work to secure a long-term substitute.

Health Updates

Covid notifications. We sent two classroom notifications in the past week.
