Principal Newsletter – December 3, 2021

After a week away, students got right back into the swing of things. It was wonderful to see students celebrating their school spirit with silly hats and hair this morning. In these final weeks before the winter holiday break students are busy editing their writing, learning new ways to solve math problems, and explaining their thinking about science investigations. Ask your student to share with you their favorite strategy for solving math problems or what they most like writing about. Their joy in learning is evident here at school – I hope they can share it with you at home.

Thank you!

The front office wishes we could send you all flowers and chocolate. We really appreciate the increase in on time arrivals and that students are arriving with clear and confident plans for how they are getting home at the end of the day. This has lightened the workload on our office staff and helped to make the beginning and end of each school day much smoother for students and staff. Many thanks!

Holiday Help

If you would like to help support a Lawton family with holiday gifts, please click HERE. Please deliver all gift cards to the Lawton front office on or before Thursday, December 9th. We will distribute on Friday, December 10th. We’ll be adding slots to the sign-up as requests come in. If your family needs holiday assistance, please email Kristina.

Arrival and Pick Up Reminders

All our bus routes are running again. Hooray! Please help us keep access to the bus lane clear and move your car from the circle when needed to let a bus pass.

We’ve received neighbor complaints about driveways on the block being routinely blocked or crowded. Please remember to follow all city rules and help us be a good neighbor when parking near school. Seattle Municipal Code (SMC 11.72.110) requires 5 feet between your car and the end of a driveway return or alley entrance.

Health and Safety Updates

Lawton Covid Update. This week (11/29 – 12/3), Lawton sent zero classroom COVID notifications.

Report Cards

Report cards will be available to families on the Source starting Thursday, December 16th. Information on how to access your Source account is available HERE. If your family needs a hard copy of your student’s report card, please email Kristina. Otherwise, our plan is to have electronic report cards for Fall and Winter trimesters and print hard copies in the spring.

Lost and Found

Please remember to check the lost and found rack in front of the main doors if you are missing items. All items will be donated before winter break.
