Principal Newsletter – June 23, 2023

Today is Field Day, and it is an amazing day for fun in the sun! Yesterday a 3rd grade student told me in the morning that she is SO excited for Field Day because it is her favorite day of the entire year; I think this is a very common sentiment at Lawton! I want to thank the PTA and all of our dedicated volunteers for making this joyful experience happen!

I’d also like to thank our 4th grade parent Promotion Committee for all the work and energy they put into making our 5th grade Promotion event a warm and festive occasion. And big thanks to Ms. French, Ms. Kinder, our Talent Show student committee and our Talent Show performers for creating 2 amazing assemblies showcasing the skills and talents of Lawton students.

With one week of school left, I’m delighted to see all the engaging learning going on in our classrooms. As I pop into classrooms this week, I see Kindergarteners in Ms. Dominguez’s room reading the class book they created and had published, 1st graders writing their own books and creating intricate mazes, 2nd graders actively participating in their final math unit on measurement, 3rd graders presenting creative “passion projects” and research on US States, 4th graders creating spelling posters and math projects, and 5th graders writing persuasive essays about the school year. I’m so grateful for our energetic staff and students their commitment to learning right until the end of this unusually long school year!
