Subject: Principal Newsletter – November 13, 2020
Each year when November comes and the days get shorter, colder, and wetter it can be difficult to maintain enthusiasm for new learning. This year presents several additional challenges – including Remote Learning. I encourage you and your students to be strength spotters. Take time to discuss with your students what they see as their own areas of success, academic and social. You will learn a little more about what success looks like from their perspective and can use those conversations to support them to apply what works across settings.
Shop online or in person at Secret Garden Books between now and November 20th. Click HERE to shop. Enter code LAWTON into the coupon box at checkout if it isn’t automatically there, to make sure your purchase counts toward the book fair. A percentage of sales (up to 20%) go to the Lawton Library for new books.
Join our Lawton staff “Mystery Readers” for read-alouds during our Virtual Book Fair.

Packet Distribution – Upcoming Dates
Packets are outside today from 8am to 3pm for K-2 students. We are getting lots of questions about Friday, November 20th. There will be a packet distribution for K-2 packets on that day. We recognize that some families are traveling during the coming weeks. If you need to pick up your packet on Monday, November 23rd or Monday, December 30th instead, the front office will make packets available on those days. The next all-grades pick up day is Friday, December 4th.
Advanced Learning Referral Window Open Until December 7
Submitting a referral for your student is the first step in the process of any student being identified for Advanced Learning or Highly Capable services. A family member must submit a referral on the Source before the student can be assessed for eligibility. More information available on the Advanced Learning webpage.

Dolphin Dreams Direct Drive – Last Chance to Join the [Dance] Party
Thank you to all who participated in the Dolphin Dreams Direct Drive! Despite the challenges of this unique year, the Lawton community came together to support our school with donations that fund our school counselor, technology licenses, extra librarian time, and much more.
Congratulations to Ms. Fatland’s class who joined Ms. Lundgren and Ms. Cail’s classes in achieving 100% participation! They will be invited to a virtual dance party hosted by Ms. Volk.
While the drive is officially over, participation is still welcome. Ms. Volk has offered a dance party to all classes who reach 100% by November 19th! Visit https://lawtonelementarypta.schoolauction.net/dreams2020
