Principal Newsletter – November 18, 2022

This week was a transition at Lawton. Dr. Deno’s last day was Monday, and I officially joined the team on Tuesday. It’s been a great week! I had a chance to visit each class and meet some of you at drop off and pick up. I’m still learning my way around the building but I’m so grateful to be here. Thank you for making me feel welcome!

I’ll be hosting an informal coffee chat in the commons on Friday, December 2nd at 7:30am. Looking forward to having a chance to meet more of you then.

No School Next Week

There is no school for students next week. Our teachers are looking forward to meeting with families during conferences. We will see students back on campus Monday, November 28th. Wishing everyone a restful and rejuvenating break.

Last Call for Lost and Found Items

Our lost and found is full of water bottles, coats, sweatshirts, and other lost items. Please look at the racks next time you are at school. We return labeled items to students, so be sure to mark names on/in anything you want returned. Unclaimed items will be donated at the end of conference week.

Holiday Giving

If you would like to help support a Lawton family with holiday gifts, please click HERE. Please deliver all gift cards to the Lawton front office on or before Thursday, December 8th. We will start distributing to families on Friday, December 9th so that they have time to order and ship their gifts. We’ll be adding slots to the sign-up as requests come in. If your family needs holiday assistance, please email Kristina.

Safety Patrol Starting November 28th

Our 5th grade safety patrollers will start their morning service on the Monday after break. Pedestrians should wait for flag before crossing at intersection. Drivers can help us keep things safe and efficient by following these guidelines:

  • Have students packed and ready to exit the car independently
  • Exit on the sidewalk side of the car in the loading zone (not in the circle)
  • Wait in a single-file line once entering 27th street – do not pass cars waiting to unload
  • Stay in the driver’s seat, do not exit car

SPS Seeking Instrumental Music Teachers

Seattle Public Schools is seeking music educators to teach instrumental music to 4th and 5th grade students (violin, cello, flute, clarinet, trumpet, and trombone). Interested or know someone who is? APPLY HERE.

PTA

Direct Drive. A big thank you to everyone for their participation in and donations to the Direct Drive. The support of our school community made this fundraiser a success! All donations go directly to funding important resources and support for our students, staff, and teachers. If you didn’t get a chance to donate or would like to further support our school, you can still donate here.
