Principal Newsletter November 19, 2021

Since we will be out of school next week, I want to take this opportunity to express my gratitude for the entire Lawton community. Thank you to students for their curiosity about learning new things and the ways they show kindness to one another. They bring moments of joy each day. Thank you to families and community members for ongoing partnership and support. Thank you to all the staff at Lawton for their dedication to creating meaningful learning environments for students – whether it is through keeping lunch and recess safe and fun or engaging students in lively discussions about ways to solve math problems. Lawton is a wonderful school community that I feel fortunate to be a part of every day.

No School Next Week

There is no school for students next week due to conferences. Our teachers are looking forward to meeting with families. We look forward to seeing students back on campus Monday, November 29th.

Health and Safety Updates

Vaccination and symptom reminders. Regardless of vaccination status, please continue to keep your student home if they develop symptoms of Covid-19 and follow SPS protocols for safe return to school.

Remember that a person is fully vaccinated when:

  • 2 weeks after their second dose in a 2-dose series (Pfizer, Moderna)
  • 2 weeks after a single-dose vaccine (J&J)

If you don’t meet these requirements, regardless of your age, you are NOT fully vaccinated. Keep taking all precautions until you are fully vaccinated, including following safe travel recommendations which suggest testing 3-5 days after travel and self-quarantine for a full 7 days (10 if you don’t test).

Vaccine clinics for students 5-11. SPS selected school-based vaccine clinic sites based on enrollment numbers and equity tier levels. While Lawton was not selected, other regional SPS clinic options are open to Lawton families. Click HERE for more information.

Lawton Covid Update. This week (11/15 – 11/19), Lawton sent zero classroom COVID notifications.
