Lawton Dolphins have had a great week! We emphasize showing the WAVE at school and our students are doing just that:
- Welcome everyone
- Act responsibly
- Value learning
- Encourage each other
On Monday, we had our second flood of the rainy season downstairs. District staff came quickly to assist in clean up and attempt to stop it from happening in the future. Students and teachers changed their end of day routines to avoid the flooded areas. We’re becoming masters of flexibility!
On Tuesday, the Seattle Fire Department came to observe our whole school fire drill. The drill went quickly and smoothly. Fire Captain Allen spoke to the students about how impressed he was with them.
Today, our tie-dye spirit day coincided with our first WAVE store of the year. Students had fun seeing one another dressed up and exchanging their WAVE tickets for dolphin themed trinkets or whole class experiences.
I am proud of our Lawton Dolphins and they ways they are joining the WAVE across the school each and every day.
DROP OFF AND PICK UP REMINDERS
Thank you for working with us to keep drop off and pick up safe for all students. With one of our bus routes still not running and rainy weather, we still need your help in getting all students safely and on time to school. Please continue to:
- Drive slow and safe
- Watch for pedestrians
- Stay off your phone
- Avoid stopping in the circle
- Use 27th for quick unloading only
There is absolutely no parking in the circle or loading zone. We recognize that cars queue while they wait for the line to move. Ideally, people arriving prior to dismissal should park in the neighborhood and walk to pick students up – leaving the loading zone free for those who are doing a true drive up/pick up/drive away. In the absence of the ideal, please stay in your car the whole time so that you’re ready to move if needed for bus access. Busses often need cars to fully vacate the circle in order to safely make the turn.
Another way to help cut down on morning congestion is to drop off on 26th instead of 27th. Students can enter the playground through that gate and proceed to their entry doors.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
Lawton Covid Update. This week (9/27– 10/1), Lawton sent zero classroom COVID notifications.
COSTUME RULES
Halloween is coming and we know many students are getting excited. To help you plan, here’s a reminder of costume rules for school:
- Pack your costume – don’t wear it to school. There will be an opportunity to change before celebrations. School costumes need to be simple enough for students to manage changing into on their own.
- No costume masks.
- No face paint, blood, or gore.
- No weapons.
- Footwear should be practical, safe, and comfortable for active play.
- Avoid cultural appropriation.
You can expect to hear from your student’s teacher about their specific classroom celebration plans. All celebrations will take place on Friday, October 29th. School celebrations will not have any food this year.
