Principal Newsletter – October 29, 2021

This week at Lawton, 2nd and 3rd grade students read scary stories in the library, 4th and 5th graders practiced their composition skills in music, and Kindergarten and 1st graders jumped rope in PE. The time students spend learning from specialists is key to our educational programming. Ask your students what they did in music, PE, or library this week to learn more.

Morning Drop Off

With bus service suspended and families trying to negotiate safe and timely drop off for 300+ students in a 15-minute window, it is more important than ever that we work together to make morning traffic flow smoothly. Please arrive early and stay alert (phones away please). The most frantic time for drop off is between 7:50 and 7:55. Arriving 10 minutes earlier makes all the difference!

We are thankful to parent volunteer Amanda Armes and our 5th graders for volunteering their time to get Lawton’s Safety Patrol back up and running.

If you’d like to use the loading zone in front of the school for your morning drop off, please:

  • Have your student sit on the passenger seat side of your back seat
  • Pull forward to front of loading zone
  • Remain in your car; students may wait for Safety Patrol to open curbside door or get out on their own
  • Drive forward and follow instructions of adult in intersection

Note: You may be directed to go straight through the intersection when you’d prefer to go right. This is to clear the car backup while allowing students to cross at crosswalks. Thank you for your flexibility.

If the hustle and bustle of the front drop off zone is not how you want to start your morning, you may drop on 26th Ave and have your students enter campus through the playground gate, walk from home, or park somewhere in the neighborhood and walk.

Our goal is for all students and families have a safe and pleasant morning. Thank you for your partnership and patience.
