Lawton Move-a-Thon

We like to MOVE IT MOVE IT! Move-a-Thon is Friday, May 12! The PTA's annual Move-a-Thon is a festive, supportive opportunity for our kids to run, walk, skip and dance around the upper field until the music stops. It’s a fun-filled event with lots of parent involvement, and a big accomplishment for our kiddos. Thanks to our sponsor Metropolitan Market! We need lots of parent helpers (at least 3 per class) to help set up in the morning, track laps, run with the kids and otherwise encourage our movers to keep on keeping on. This is a high-reward, quick and easy outdoor volunteer opportunity—the more the merrier! Sign up here. See the time schedule below and arrive at the field 10 minutes before your child's session to get instructions. Parents of K – 3rd graders with

Teacher Appreciation Week

It's time to show Lawton Staff our LOVE!  Staff Appreciation Week is May 8th to 12th! The Lawton PTA is generously providing a coffee cart on Monday and catered lunches for all staff on Tuesday and Thursday. Geni's Ethiopian Catering is donating desserts on Friday. We're hoping Lawton families will match this generosity by donating breakfast items to compliment the coffee cart on Monday, snacks for Wednesday, desserts on Tuesday and Thursday, and drinks for the entire week.  If you are interested in contributing, please review this Sign Up Genius to sign up. We'd love to have a combination of store-bought grab-and-go items and homemade items (please include ingredient list). All items should be dropped off to Mikelle Nuwer at least one day before they are requested. Email website@lawtonelementary.org for more information.

Principal Newsletter – April 21, 2023

April is National Literacy Month and at Lawton our staff and students have been highlighting books and poetry in lots of fun ways – from a book character scavenger hunt around the school, our dress like your favorite character day, to our wonderful “caught reading” photo bulletin board. Adding to this theme, next week we celebrate National Library Week. We are so grateful to have Audra Gallegos as our Lawton librarian at Lawton! She is dedicated to keeping our collection fresh and relevant for students, teaching research and inquiry skills, and developing our students’ love of reading. Principal Newsletter – April 7, 2023

Our hallways are filled with book characters, the trees in the loading zone are in full bloom, students are excited about their WAVE store purchases, and Carol McKinney is making beautiful watercolors with 3rd – 5th grade students (K-2 students will work with our artist in residence in May). All in all, it’s been a joyful send off for Spring Break. We’ll look forward to seeing you all again on Monday, April 17th! Volunteer Needs Roller blade helpers. Mr. Peters and Ms. Collis would love parent help getting the equipment from our roller blade unit sorted and stored for next year. If you’re able/willing to help match skates, create bags of pads, and flag equipment that needs repair, please email kmcerise. Looking for help the week we return from break. Volunteers Needed!

Movie Night - April 28 One of our students initiated this fun Movie Night event, and the PTA is making it happen! If it is successful, we hope to host more events like these in the future. We can't do it without the help of volunteers! Please consider signing up! After School Enrichment The PTA is in need of a parent volunteer who can be on-site on Mondays from 2:15-4:15pm to assist. The volunteer makes sure that the instructors arrive and check attendance, makes sure everyone gets picked up by their caregivers and instructors leave the building. It's a very easy gig! For helping out, the PTA will cover the cost of your child/ren if they are in any enrichment classes! Please email website@lawtonelementary.org if you are interested. Principal Newsletter – March 31, 2023

Spring is a time of renewal and hope; the sun comes out and we can feel the possibilities. I’ve appreciated watching possibilities become projects in the past few weeks. It’s inspiring. Ms. Jessica, our COVID support and lunch/playground supervisor, noticed the reader board was fuzzy and green in places it shouldn’t be and the next thing we knew she was scrubbing it clean and trimming the branches that were making it hard to read. A Lawton student leader brainstormed the possibility of a movie night and now, with the help of our PTA, plans are moving forward for a community event on April 28th. This is how the magic happens. People see a need and we work together as a community to meet it. Thank you for being part of our team! Wanted: Caught Reading
