Sign Ups for Staff Appreciation Day!

It’s time to show Lawton Staff our LOVE!

Staff Appreciation Week is May 6th to 10th and we need lots of donations and a little parent help to show our teachers and staff just  how much we love them!

In collaboration with a few of our amazing Lawton family-owned businesses, the Lawton PTA will be providing a coffee cart on Monday and catered lunches for all staff on Tuesday (Plaza Garibaldi – Libier Sandoval) and Thursday (Made in Mom’s Kitchen – Ramandeep Talwar). Lands of Origin: African bakery @Pike Place (Meeraf Mamo) is donating desserts on Friday.

We’re hoping other Lawton families will match this generosity by donating breakfast items to compliment the coffee cart on Monday, snacks for Wednesday, desserts on Thursday, and tableware and drinks for the entire week. Parent help will be needed to clean the staff lounge each day and to pick up donations from the local businesses.

If you are interested in contributing or volunteering, please review this Sign Up Genius to sign up. We’d love to have a combination of store-bought grab-and-go items and homemade items (please include ingredient list).

**All items should be dropped off to Mikelle Nuwer (4206 33rd Ave W; 206-354-4311) at least one day before they are requested.**

Birds & Bees Talk with Amy Lang

The PTAs of Lawton, Blaine and Magnolia Elementary have partnered up to bring you an online talk by award-winning author and speaker Amy Lang on how and when to start the famous birds and bees talk. This talk is geared towards parents only.

Mark your calendars for Wednesday, April 3 from 7-8:30pm and join via Zoom. To learn more about Amy, click here. See the attached PDF for more info!

Parenting Support Group – Thursday, April 25th at 6:45pm in the Library

We’d like to invite you to the second meeting of our parenting support group, hosted by former Lawton parent and certified coach Kate Kiely. The meeting will take place in the library on Thursday, April 25th from 6:45-7:45pm.

The group discussion will be based on the first chapter of the book “The Whole Brain Child by Daniel J. Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson. Since we all have busy lives, reading the chapter is not a must, and Kate will give a summary at the beginning of the meeting. If you’d like to purchase the book but need financial assistance, please contact presidents@lawtonelementary.org.

From facilitator Kate Kiely: Join us for a monthly parenting support group where you can share your experiences, learn new strategies, and get and give support in a safe space. When we raise kids in the context of community and connection, we learn to be more compassionate to ourselves, supportive of one another, and more present for the kids in our lives. We’ll exchange resources and read and discuss a parenting book together. It’s also a great way to make and strengthen connections within the Lawton community.
