This relevant and engaging presentation will help attendees identify early signs and symptoms of mental illness in youth, provide information about treatments, and features a young adult who will tshare their lived experience coping with depression and anxiety. Enrollment for the 2021-2022 school year has opened – this is for incoming Kindergarteners as well as anyone else who wants to enroll (or re-enroll) in Seattle Public Schools for the upcoming school year. Registration in January is very helpful to Lawton because new families for next year who register now show up in enrollment projections which impact budget and staffing.

Each year, Seattle Public Schools accepts referrals from parents and staff of students who may be eligible for participation in Advanced Learning/Highly Capable programs offered by the District. The deadline for referrals for this year (for participation next school year) is December 7th. Learn more at the Advanced Learning page from SPS.

This year for Thanksgiving Weekend, Fleet Feet Ballard (owned by a local public elementary school family) is donating $10 per pair of shoes sold in-store to neighborhood elementary schools. At the register, they’ll ask which school should receive the donation and will include Lawton among the choices.
This will take place Thanksgiving Weekend from Friday, Nov 27 – Sunday, Nov 29.

Did you know that this year you have the opportunity to donate to a partner school along with your support of Lawton Elementary?
Lawton PTA has chosen Bailey Gatzert Elementary as our SPS partner school and we hope that this is the beginning of a long-term partnership between our schools. Our partnership with Bailey Gatzert developed out of an existing relationship cultivated by Lawton’s PTA Outreach Committee. Located in the Central District, Bailey Gatzert serves a population of ~300 pre-K through grade 5 students. At Gatzert, 94% of the population are students of color, 33% of students are English Language Learners, and 18% are students with disabilities. You can help Bailey Gatzert’s Family Partners Group break down education barriers by ensuring families have access to key learning resources, such as translation services, critical materials to improve at-home learning and additional academic assistance for their diverse population of students.
