2020 Direct Drive Partner School

Did you know that this year you have the opportunity to donate to a partner school along with your support of Lawton Elementary?

Lawton PTA has chosen Bailey Gatzert Elementary as our SPS partner school and we hope that this is the beginning of a long-term partnership between our schools.  Our partnership with Bailey Gatzert developed out of an existing relationship cultivated by Lawton’s PTA Outreach Committee.  Located in the Central District, Bailey Gatzert serves a population of ~300 pre-K through grade 5 students. At Gatzert, 94% of the population are students of color, 33% of students are English Language Learners, and 18% are students with disabilities. You can help Bailey Gatzert’s Family Partners Group break down education barriers by ensuring families have access to key learning resources, such as translation services, critical materials to improve at-home learning and additional academic assistance for their diverse population of students.

Watch these videos to learn more about a Day in the Life of a Bailey Gatzert student. The Kindergarten Welcome video is an introduction to the teachers and administrative staff. You may find this to be a good way to connect with the Bailey Gatzert community.

Please help support our partner school with a supplemental donation to the Bailey Gatzert’s Family Partners Group here. Your contribution to Bailey Gatzert is in addition to any donation you make to the Lawton PTA Direct Drive.

Direct Drive 2020 is Live!

Our Dolphin Dreams direct drive fundraiser is an important opportunity for the community to come together to support programs such as library books & support, school counselor, student technology licenses and so much more.  The primary goal of the Dolphin Dreams campaign is to reach 100% participation so that all members of our community come together to support the students, teachers, staff, and families at the school. Please participate today!

Washington State PTA eSurvey 2020!

Member voice matters — please take a few minutes and complete our Lawton Elementary PTA e-survey. There’s a wide range of advocacy issues and we need your voice to help our PTA delegates vote on the Top 5 issues that are most important to us. The survey also includes other proposed positions that delegates will vote on to develop the WSPTA platform. The issues all support the health, education, and welfare of children and youth but the proposed platform covers a wide spectrum of advocacy positions and legislative policies from increasing access to mental health to preventing gun violence and suicide to closing the digital divide. There are also eight resolutions with topics ranging from access to recess and unstructured play to improving outcomes in special education to dismantling institutional and systemic racism. Plus one new principle against racism, discrimination, and oppression. Take the e-survey and let us know what’s important to you.

There’s also a WSPTA Voters’ Guide to give you more information on all the issues as the survey just has the titles. Take a few moments to review that information as you take the e-survey.

Your replies will help guide our PTA’s delegates when they vote at the upcoming WSPTA Legislative Assembly in late October where the new 2020-2021 Platform will be set.  The e-survey closes on October 9.

Join the Lawton PTA!

Without members, there wouldn’t be a Lawton PTA. Without a Lawton PTA, there wouldn’t be:

The Lawton PTA provides enriching educational opportunities and improves the well-being of our students and school community. Many of the experiences and support that our children enjoy are funded directly by the PTA budget. We are run by volunteers and mobilize countless volunteer opportunities at Lawton throughout the year.

When you join the Lawton PTA each year, you become part of the largest child-advocacy association in the state, and you show your support for all that the Lawton PTA does collectively to help our children, families, and school. PTA membership funds support PTA activities at the National, State, and City levels, with the remaining portion of funds covering the cost of trainings, insurance, banking, and general administration expenses here at Lawton.

Joining the PTA supports all of these PTA activities, strengthens parent and teacher involvement at Lawton, and allows you to vote on important issues to decide how you want PTA funds allocated to support Lawton Elementary programs and resources.

PTA members can also benefit from discounts from a variety of participating businesses, including Great Wolf Lodge, and offers on leadership training, subscriptions and more.Join us!
