Lawton Family Update September 19, 2025 – Letter from the Principal
Lawton Families,
What a great start to the year we are having! Our new arrival procedure on the playground is going great, and we appreciate all the families who have paid the Student Supply fee so far this month! Our classes are busy working on the first units of study in all subjects (including Music and PE), and we have given our first WAVE winner recognitions at our weekly school-wide Wednesday assembly this week!
Our 4th and 5th grade students learned about the options for Wednesday clubs this week, and all of our students have been to the library and have

Free Summer Meals
The Free Summer Meals site map is not currently live but when it is, you can text FOOD to 509-509 for help locating the site nearest you.
Sun Bucks
- The sun bucks program provides $120 in grocery benefits per eligible child to use over the summer months. Note that SUN bucks expire 4 months after the date of issuance. We encourage families to spend SUN Bucks before other funds like SNAP.
- Most children will be automatically enrolled through free/reduced lunch eligibility at school or participation in assistance programs like SNAP or TANF.
- Sun Bucks cards will be reloaded this year. If families have lost their cards, they should reach out to the SUN Bucks

Lawton Families,
This has been a fantastic year and I can’t believe it is almost over! Please note that on the last day of school, Wednesday, June 18, we will dismiss at 1:25pm, not 1:10pm, as it is not an early release day but rather is a 60-minute early dismissal day.
End of Year Celebrations
Field Day is on Friday, June 13, so be sure to send a water bottle and apply sunscreen at home! We are so grateful to our amazing Lawton PTA for running this all-day event – and appreciate the volunteers who make it happen!
In addition to everyone who volunteers with PTA, I want to also thank the volunteers who helped us with school activities

Lawton Families,
Hope you enjoyed the gorgeous long weekend – only 3 ½ more weeks left in the school year, and there is lots of learning and fun happening at Lawton!
Author Visit
On Friday, May 23, authors Kelly McWilliams and Jewell Parker Rhodes visited Lawton and spoke to all classes about their many books. In addition to being renowned for their writing and scholarship, the authors are mother and daughter, and are the family of a Lawton student, making this visit even more special! Students in K-3 had the book Soul Step (co-written by the authors) read aloud by Jewell Parker Rhodes, and the students in grades 2-5 engaged with the authors about writing historical fiction. Returning to Lawton Survey
Now that it is May, we are starting to plan for next school year already!
We have an electronic Returning to Lawton Next Year? survey that we need all families to complete for each of your Lawton students by May 9. This replaces the paper survey we have sent home in past years, and this data helps us plan classrooms for next year.

Lawton Families,
We are now two weeks away from Spring Break, and even with the excitement of spring and the coming school break, teachers are really noticing that our students are in their best “learning zone” this time of year. Last week we had a visit from the Superintendent, Dr. Jones, and he got the chance to say hello to 4th graders, see & hear 1st graders prepare for their music concert (and show off our Lawton Dolphin song for him), talk to 5th graders about their math work and about being school leaders, and see 3rd graders creating art with our visiting artist – as well as touring our school and meeting with staff – in all it was a great
